Reading

Writing
Now we know a little about the Arabic letters
and how they are written and the sounds that they make,
but the sounds that the letters make sometimes change,
depending on the letters that are alongside them.
So if we are to say the words correctly,
in the manner that they were spoken by the Messenger,
we have to learn the rules the letters follow.
These rules are known as Tajweed,
and they are what all muslims begin to learn as soon as they begin to learn how to read the Qur'an,
and they are often shown by signs that are placed on and around the letters of the text.
And some of these signs
not only change the sound of the words,
but they also change the meaning.
Now some of these rules you will already have learned
when reading Fatihah and Ikhlas in Level 1,
but there are more to learn if we are to recite Qur'an correctly.
And if your reading is good enough for you to have read Juz 1 and 2
you might want to try reading Juz 3 to 6,
and that will mean that you have read a fifth of the Qur'an.
And also in Level 1 you will have noticed that the Arabic letters can be written in different ways,
different scripts, like the way that you can change fonts when using your computer,
because muslims who wrote out the Qur'an always tried to make it look as beautiful as possible,
and some scripts were seen as so beautiful that they were given their own names.
But of course, what was important to read and write was also important to remember.
In fact, many would say
that it is more important to remember the words of God than just to read them.
But whatever you do,
the most important thing is to use the words of the Qur'an
to help you live and give shape to your life.
Which way
do you want to go?
